Catholic Schools Week - Pictures
February 2016
As you can see from the beautiful pictures we had a very exciting Catholic Schools Week! Our celebration acknowledged all the many groups that support and make up our community. Without everyone’s generosity and involvement we would not be the strong school that we are. Fr. Conde summed it up well when he compared our Lego theme for the week with our faith community. In his homily he pointed out that each Lego piece is distinctive in its own right, but interlocked with other pieces something new is created that is bigger and stronger and made into something that couldn’t be achieved without interacting pieces. This was a great way to explain how all Catholic schools and people are connected through our faith and parish community.
St. Christina is a thriving, viable school. Just into two weeks of opening up registration for next year, we already have received 40 new registrations for new students. People know our reputation and want their children to be a part of the success we see on a long -term and daily basis. After the high school placement test the junior high teachers and I meet with the admission people from our local high schools each year to discuss placement for our students for the following year. Our students scored well again this year and we were assured the schools love to get students from St. Christina as they know they will be well prepared for high school. Many will be placed in honors classes and receive monetary scholarships for their high scores on the placement test. Last year our graduates received approximately $35,000 in high school scholarship money.
Our students participate in a number of outside academic and service projects throughout the year, as well. From academic bowls held at local high schools to preparing meals for the less fortunate, students are challenged to be the best they can be. They willingly volunteer to help out at many events on their own time and continue that practice throughout high school. We love to hear about their many accomplishments after they leave St. Christina and the affirmation from them that their successes are due, in large part, to the education and experience they received here. Our sports teams speak for themselves by the awesome display of trophies and plaques in the Parish Center. Teamwork, discipline and pride in our school are all components of every program we offer.
Thank you for your generosity and support whether you are a parent, family member, alumni or parishioner. It’s great to be a part of such a great parish!
