Charlotte’s Web - Pictures
May 2011

This spring 2011, the fourth graders at St. Christina School brought a rural fair to the city. The students enjoyed the County Fair in conjunction with a unit on E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web.

Mrs. Maslowski and Mrs. Kovacs designed the County Fair as a reward for the children after their challenging work in comprehension, vocabulary, and character analysis while reading the book. Mr. Ed Maslowski created custom games to correspond with the farm theme. Rev. Karol Tybor, an associate pastor at St. Christina Church, Mrs. Mary Stokes, the principal, and Mrs. Nancy Makowski the assistant principal competed alongside the children.

Just as the characters in the children’s classic delighted in a carnival and games, the fourth graders participated in contests based on the book. They grasped for candy in Charlotte’s Claw, matched U.S. states and capitals in the State Capital Rally, tried to top each other’s score in Fern’s Ball Roll, tossed Frisbees in Hit the Trough, pitched hoops in Wilbur’s Ring Toss, and hurled bean bags during Wipeout Wilbur.
