The six grade students in Mrs. Higgins’ science classes identified energy resources that are both non-renewable and renewable. The students explored the advantages and disadvantages of alternative sources of energy like hydroelectric power, solar, nuclear, geothermal energy and energy from wind.

To develop a better understanding of wind energy, students were challenged to create a “Puff-mobile”. In only one class period, partners designed a vehicle using only: three plastic drinking straws, 4 lifesavers, two paper clips, one sheet of paper, and tape. Powered by their own wind power, their breath, whose design would travel the farthest in fifteen seconds? Winning design team in Room 11, T. J. Bonnett and Jake Nichols. Their vehicle traveled 21.9 feet. Winning design team in Room 12, traveling a distance of 17.2 feet - Samantha Ziemann and Eric Peyronet.
