The Fun and Physics of Kite Flying - Pictures
May 2012
The seventh grade science classes of Mrs. Joan Baley made their own homemade kites and went outside to experience the aerodynamic forces at their fingertips. Building and flying kites are excellent ways to bring science concepts to life for the students. A student on the end of the kite string feels a force right in their hand and knows that the force changes with the velocity of the wind.
The students illustrated a number of scientific concepts including Newton’s Laws of Motion, Bernoulli’s Theorem, and many other physics fundamentals. The students were excited about building and flying their kites. Mrs. Baley’s class enjoyed getting out in the sunshine to test their homemade their kites.
