Persuasive Writing - Third & Fourth Grade - Pictures
March 2012
The third and fourth graders proved they can be very persuasive as they focused on their writing projects for their English classes. The third graders first learned and practiced the five parts of a friendly letter and the features of persuasive writing. Next, they wrote a friendly persuasive letter to Mrs. Berrigan on a variety of topics such as: why I should get an iPad, go to Key Lime Cove, read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and not waiting until the night before a test to study.
The fourth graders are building on what they already know to develop better writing skills and write longer passages. They were required to write a 3 paragraph newspaper article on something they strongly believe in or to review a favorite book. They called their newspaper The St. Christina Chronicle and they were the featured writer. Some of their topics were about recycling, not texting and driving, what kind of dog to get, and wearing seat belts.
The third and fourth graders followed the 5 steps of the writing process before turning in their final publication. Mrs. Berrigan said “Grades 3 and 4 are truly special shining stars and wonderful writers!”
