“Respect is learned, earned, and returned.”
Author Unknown
Mrs. Baley’s 8th graders formulated classroom rules on the first day of school. Respect was certainly the most important rule. She had her class do a simple experiment with a rich lesson in mind. The students were placed in groups and given a small tube of toothpaste. They were to squeeze all of the toothpaste out of the tube onto a paper plate. Then they were asked to place the toothpaste back into the tube. Soon the students gave up and said it was impossible. Getting the toothpaste out was much easier.
The Lesson: Our words can be just like that. Once they come out of our mouths, we can’t put them back. That is why we should use kind words and speak respectfully to others.
