Students Shine at Science Fair - Pictures
May 2012

The 8th grade science fair was a huge success as the students once again presented many new ideas and exciting experiments. Mrs. Baley’s future scientists demonstrated an indepth understanding of their chosen experiment and displayed their findings during the all-day fair. The school hall was transformed in to a venue for the students to share their findings as the entire school, parents, and visitors got a firsthand look at science in motion. The 8th grade students used the scientific process to explain their projects to the judges from local high schools. The judges were impressed with all our 8th grade students, but a big congratulations goes out to this year’s winners:

1st Place Tie
Katherine Fennessey - What method of survival water purification works best?
Maggie Hacket and Erin Walsh - Who has better memory - females or males?

2nd Place
Steven Lona and Mike Smith - How do potential and kinetic energy affect the distance a rubber band travels?

3rd Place
Daniel Wagner - What materials will block the radio frequency transmission of a cell phone?

4th Place
Frank Basile and Tim Carroll - Does the intensity of light on a plant’s leaves affect the plant’s oxygen output?
