Bereavement Program - Adult Grief Support Group

OSF Healthcare Little Company of Mary Medical Center will be hosting a 6-week adult grief support group. The sessions will meet on Thursdays from 1 pm until 3 pm at the Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 South Troy Avenue, Lower Level, in Evergreen Park, Illinois.

Losing a loved one can be especially difficult. Whether the loss was recent or sometime ago, the feelings of grief can be overwhelming and intense. The grief support sessions will be designed to offer support and encouragement in an environment of respect and compassion. Adults who have lost a loved one and are in need of support are welcome.

Session 3 – October 31, 2024
Session 4 – November 07, 2024
Session 5 – November 14, 2024
Session 6 – November 21, 2024

GriefShare Support at Christ the King

A winter cycle of GriefShare, the Christian centric grief support program for those who have lost a loved one to death, has begun. The sessions are held on Sundays beginning at 12:30 pm in the basement meeting room of the Christ the King rectory at 9235 S. Hamilton in Chicago.

The cycle is thirteen sessions, each about one hour, forty-five minutes in length. Each session begins with a video of approximately forty minutes focused on a subject common to the grief experience. Small group discussion which includes use of a workbook follows the video presentation.

One may register at griefshare.org: click Locate a Group, insert CK 60643 zip, find CK listing, and complete the information. A suggested fee of $25 covers the workbook expense. Scholarships are available.

Hospice Volunteer Training - Volunteer Opportunity

Palos Hospice will soon be offering a hospice volunteer training. The training will prepare caring individuals to provide service to terminally ill patients and their family members. The required time commitment averages four hours per week. Volunteers visit patients in their homes and nursing homes, providing companionship and support to families.

Cherished Angel Perinatal Loss Support Group - Third Saturday of each Month

We invite all angel moms and dads who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death to join us at our monthly support group.

We meet on the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 am to 12 Noon at Little Company of Mary Hospital, 2800 W. 95th Street, Evergreen Park, IL.

Our group is a place to share your grief and discuss monthly topics about emotions, relationships, and coping. The group leader is Kathryn D. Gardner, LCPC, PMH-C, Specialist in Women’s Issues.

Caregivers Resource Center - Ongoing Service

Palos Hospital wants to honor all family caregivers for their dedication and compassionate care. In recognizing that caregiving for a family member can be overwhelming and stressful at times, we are here to offer support in our newly opened Caregiver Resource Center.

Located off the hospital main lobby, the Caregiver Resource Center is a safe, friendly oasis, a non-clinical place for caregivers to ask questions, discuss thoughts, share concerns and receive emotional support. In addition, the center will have pertinent caregiving information, including information on dementia, safety, self-care and support groups. This is a complimentary service offered to all family caregivers in the community.

The Caregivers Resource Center is open Monday-Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. No appointment is needed. Phone support is available during the same hours at 708-923-4970.

LOSS Program for Children and Youth - Ongoing Event

The Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) Program for Children and Youth continues to meet with bereaved children and adolescents who have lost a loved one to suicide. This specialized grief support program provides individual counseling and group support for child and teen survivors. Counseling is offered in various Chicagoland locations. The program has no cost and is always tailored to fit the child and family’s grief support needs.

Catholic Charities Mary’s Closet Needs Professional Clothing and Donations - Ongoing Event

Catholic Charities professional clothing center, Mary’s Closet, is in need of career-ready clothing, accessories, and shoes for men and women, especially in larger sizes.

Mary’s Closet, is a program that helps Catholic Charities clients who are in need of assistance preparing for job interviews or seeking employment by providing them with work-ready clothes and interview coaching.

All donated items can be dropped off at Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle Street, Chicago on Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7 pm or on Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, or at our other drop-off location, Relevant Radio, 145 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
