The Marian Award is the highest Catholic Medal a Girl Scout can earn in the Cadette level of scouting. This prestigious award is given out each year at a ceremony in March at Holy Name Cathedral by one of the Archdiocese’s Bishops.
This program is designed to help young girls learn more about Mary, the Mother of God and the First Female Disciple of Christ. It also helps the girls to learn what it means to be a young woman of faith in their family and friend relationships. During our weekly meetings, the girls will explore their own personality traits, their family history, how to become a good role model and about being a true friend. They will also learn how Mary can be an a strong and important role mode in their lives.
The girls will be filling out weekly worksheets that will be eventually made into a booklet. They will also prepare and run the First Saturday Masses along with doing service work for the parish through the Fish Fry service projects.

On Sunday, April 10, 2016, Cadette Girls Scouts from the Archdiocese of Chicago were recognized at Holy Name Cathedral. Eight young women from St. Christina received the Marian Award which is the second highest Catholic award given to the Girl Scouts. These girls have been meeting weekly since September as they learned about themselves, their friendships, family relationships and about Mary, the Mother of God being a strong role model in their lives.
They also had to learn to write the petitions, lector, and lead flags for our First Saturday Mass each month. They were also required to create an involved booklet based on their weekly worksheets and lessons learned. Along with that, they helped with the Fish Fry each week as they rolled over 4,000 plastic ware into napkins that were needed for the meals.
These young ladies worked hard and are to be congratulated for their achievement. St. Christina is very blessed to have these young women who have become young leaders and roles models in our faith community!

Since September, these young ladies have been working hard to receive the Marian Award. Given out in March at Holy Name Cathedral, the Marian Award is the second highest Catholic award given through the Girl Scouts of Chicago. As part of the process, the girls discussed in depth their relationships with their friends, family, and their faith, especially having Mary, the Mother of God as their role model. They also planned and led each First Saturday Mass, did service through the Giving Tree and Fish Fry programs, and, by the end, created a Marian booklet.
These young ladies have proven that the Catholic Church is alive and vibrant with young people. They are now, and will continue to be, strong active members of the Church. The parish community should be proud as we congratulate this group on their prestigious award: Clarie Heller, Emily Herrera, Molly Herrera, Morgan Hernandez, Grace Hynes, Megan Kilroe, Lindsay Janicki, Emma Magnavite, Sinead McKillop, Trisha Noonan and Peyton Scanell.
